Corydalis (yan hu suo) is widely used in China for pain relief. It invigorates the blood and regulates qi. It is often used for post surgery pain, menstrual pain or discomfort in the chest, abdomen and epigastric areas. For pain affecting the entire body, you might combine a handful of yan hu suo along with one piece of tang kuei; one handful each of salvia (dan shen), peony (bai shao), angelica (bai zhi), licorice (gan cao); the contents of 3 or 4 myrrh capsules (or 1/2 teaspoon of raw myrrh--mo yao), and a pinch of cinnamon to stimulate circulation.
